I Was a Picky Eater

When I was young
I thought it so divine
To expand my little palate,
Eat “fresh” off the vine.

But only things that I picked,
Not food my mother cooked.
No smashed peas for me please.
On natural food I was hooked.

I ate ants, leaves, mulberries,
Twigs, and, one time, sand.
Isn’t it true that the freshest food
Comes straight from the land?

Why eat something frozen?
Why eat something stale?
I dined al fresco like my brother,
Who once ate a snail.
